Based on the spirit of the maker movement Hack-a-Bot is UCSC's only hardware focused hackathon. Hack-a-Bot aims to bring together the speed and passion of a hack-a-thon, with a creative environment that doesn’t have the suffocating pressure to succeed. Hack-a-Bot will rewards lofty ideas, risk taking, and stepping outside your comfort zone. We hope to bring teams together to enjoy the spirit of creation.

What is Hack-a-Bot?
Hack-a-Bot is a day long robotics building hackathon where you will work with a team of up to three other students to complete a given task.

Who is Hack-a-Bot open to?
Hack-a-Bot is open to any current UCSC Undergraduate or Graduate student regardless of their year, major or background experience. None UCSC students are handled on a case by case basis, for more information please email us at

Yes! We are always looking for sponsorships to help us make Hack-a-Bot bigger and better! Financial, personal and in kind donations are always welcome. Please contact us at

Can I sign up by myself or in a team?
We welcome both individuals and teams of four or less. If you sign up as an as less then a full team you will be placed with others to make a full team, we will do our best to balance the skills of the various team members as indicated in the application.
